In January 2017, all the 2nd year students within the School of Computing and Engineering took part in the first ever ‘Enterprise Challenge’. This week long activity saw our team of 5 multi-disciplinary undergraduates pitted against over 300 other Computing and Engineering students to devise a solution to a real-world problem set by industry. Essential Healthcare Solutions was established in 1999 and offer an extensive range of solutions designed to promote independent living and rehabilitation. Their design brief was as follows: ‘To create a product/service that would help towards the prevention/management of bedsores and pressure ulcers.’
To create the 3D model of our chosen design I used Solidworks due to the fact that it is the CAD software that I used as part of my degree. Having being trained on Solidworks in my first year I was able to quickly model our artifact ready for printing.
Choosing the 3D printing Society to manufacture our product was a ‘no brainer’. Their printer is very sophisticated and delivers high quality results. Younes was able to get the print to me within the limited time frame we had available which is another great positive!
